This was the third club foray at the Florence Preserve. Sixteen club members and one staff member of the Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy (CMLC) participated. 87 species were identified but there was not the abundance of edibles as in previous years, which was a disappointment to some members.
The trails selected for the foray were located at the upper end of the preserve which is accessed through a gated locked road. These trails were selected because the terrain was gentle, with more open areas to foray than the steep lower portions of the preserve. The group forayed from 10 am until shortly after noon. It was a cloudy day with rain threatening early on which discouraged several club members from coming. Luckily the rain held off and everyone had a good time. As in previous years we lunched at the Chestnut Hills Community picnic shelter.
