On the first of two forays to Dupont State Forest this year, we visited the Guion Farms area and, as on many previous visits, found good collecting conditions on the surrounding trails. We identified 94 species, a remarkable total for an AMC foray with no visiting mycologist to help us. Five species were first-time finds for the club.
Among our finds were two species of honey fungus, which usually do not appear until September. This early fruiting may have been the consequence of some unusually cool spells in July.
